Part of the Lost Books Anthology

As part of updating my 22 books on self-publishing, I was haunted by a mystery. This update was to simply extract the evergreen principles which always worked. But there were times when those principles failed. And it followed a pattern. Sleuthing this whodunit resulted in 9 lessons...

This update followed on the heels of a three-year effort to test “organic discovery” on the big ebook distributors. Only to find that it probably never existed. So I began to study book marketing in earnest.

And then the villain emerged. Certain distributors were there only to make income for themselves. The author and their products, as well as readers, were simply commodities. Each were easily replaced by the next-in-line who were chasing the promoted dream of fast profits.

This then prompted a complete research on how all this scene came to be - and how to break this endless loop of fast release and boilerplate fiction. A loop pattern that was resulting in writer burnout.

The lessons below explore this scene much as a crime story, as each clue leads to another — until finally the villain, henchmen, and modus opperandi are all exposed. And then the logical solution to real book sales is outlined.

I’ve collected these lessons here so you can follow and review them, as well as being able to have all this data at your fingertips.

And below them, enable you to download a complete set for offline access and study.

Good Hunting!

Cracking the Cashflow Code - Lesson 01: Solving The Mystery of Low Income Authors

While it's easier than ever to write and publish your books to the world, it's also harder than ever to make a living at it. This course and lessons were developed to help you connect the dots and maneuver successfully through the minefield of “conventional wisdom” and “advice” that keeps authors struggling to make ends meet.

Cracking the Cashflow Code - Lesson 03: Who's Stopping Writer Success?

Writers are encouraged to create books exactly for the whales. The most successful write in specifically popular genres, covering the expected tropes. They write in interconnected series. But even while apparently covering all bases, there is no guarantee that your book will generate sales enough to cover your expenses.

Cracking the Cashflow Code - Lesson 04: Amazon as a Criminal Mastermind

How Amazon Is Killing off Writerpreneurs. This ebook-loss-leader idea flies in the face of Amazon and their arbitraries. The one's they've introduced make themselves rich while killing off authors by keeping them poor. Obviously, it's in the best interest of Amazon to push ebooks, since they are low overhead and high profit.

Cracking the Cashflow Code - Lesson 05: Opening Locked Doors in Walled Gardens

Finding the Secret to Which Books Sell - At the beginning of 2018, I had to test some conventional wisdom about book publishing. I'd been told over and over that there was still some “organic discovery” on the book distributors. If you came out with new titles every few weeks, then Amazon would recommend your books and readers would find them.
