[Living Sensical] Last bales served - hopefully. And the countdown is starting for new calves.
Just what many of you have been waiting for - cute newborns to delight and even name...
Hi,
Hope this week’s weather is treating you well. We’re back to shifting between one and two layers of jackets right now. We may get away without having to feed more - but the grass is still short, which means feeding wide and fast…
Again, check your subscriptions if you’re getting too few or too many of these newsletters.
This is late as I was caught up in polishing a new addition to that last book.
Farm News - Balancing between too short and will take forever to grow, and old hay that jacks costs, lowers profits.
Writing News - Research and writing don’t mix. Like going grocery shopping while your hungry…
Expectancy and Survival - Life is better when you expect “things will always turn up.'“
Farming News
Now onto the last five bales - but look at this:
Jonquils. The ones which come later and have dark centers are daffodils. So I’ve been led to believe. Regardless, it means that we’ve got some real spring happening. These are next to a wild plum we planted by the house. In a few years, we won’t have to guess about the plums being ready.
Here’s the next few months of calf-sorting chess-board work:
We start out with four heifers and four steers kept back from the year before last. And last years calves are still out there with their momma’s. (They’re supposedly weaned by now.)
The four heifers we get pregnancy tested, and returned.
This year’s weaned heifers get tagged and go back to the herd. (There’s 7 of them.) 5 of this year’s weaned bull calves go to the vet to become steers, tagged, and then watched for a couple of days (to ensure they aren’t bleeding) and then returned to the herd. The rest of the bull calves (which should number 6, by my last reckoning) will got to market.
Got all that? Good - you can come and intern this spring and help me sort and tag. (Just kidding - unless you want a serious working vacation… just email me. All the beef you can eat.)
Tiny Home News
Here’s a cute set for you. Right out of the original Ghostbusters movie - “…dogs and cats sleeping together.”
This was taken through our front screen door.
That special lid is on top of that five-gallon red bucket. Something we found out about online in a video. It’s called a Gamma lid, and screws into its tight-fit circular frame. Put it on a regular-size food-grade bucket and you’ve got storage that’s air- and moisture-tight. Fill it with non-perishable food and it will keep for decades (providing you don’t open it to check it.) That one is filled with dog treats, just to test it out. Gets opened every day, just because the dogs like their treats...
Writing News
Added that last piece to the book and posted it as an essay. Next coming is one on the four books that together give you all you need (in theory) to build a viral book marketing campaign and drive your book into bestseller range. Yes, it means a lot of testing and practice - after you get copies of those books, read them thoroughly, test until you’ve internalized their principles and they’ve become second nature.
This just took me most of this week to research this out.
Next up is an article on Connectors, which is where this above article segued out of. It’s where you can get your blog posts or podcast interviews hosted. That should wrap up shortly (and these two are both on book marketing, so they will get included in the book as well.
Finally, I’ll then be able to publish that book with a final review.
Oh, I’ll need to update the two courses in it. But won’t wait for those. That book will get published in all possible formats this week - or those are the plans.
Expectancy and Surviving Through November
Got that Expectancy Factor live again. Added some more books to it’s library. And I’m in process of adding course lessons and other videos to the Silver and Gold levels. I’ve changed it back to free with a renewing monthly annual membership. Similar to this newsletter.
There’s a lot to go into it, which is mainly all the key materials I keep referring to. The ones that allow me to pretty much maintain a regular calm and cheerful expectancy all the time. And find a great parking spot every time I go somewhere. Even for my big, clunky pickups.
The trick is to get that level and certainty of expectancy to go into everything I do. Practice makes permanent. But the parking spaces thing is really handy..
Current Book Planning.
I won’t need to do that Flywheel book, since I’m not interested in it. I have a version which is good for book marketing, and that’s all I need. Other people can use it to build and grow their business all they want. For me, having a regular income and able to buy anything I want at any time is more than enough.
I’ll spend some time expanding the Expectancy Factor with the other references that I review regularly. Otherwise, I’m going to simply improve my author craft, which is the art and discipline of communicating.
Writerpreneur OS (current).
Copywriting - the third leg of author craft. A thorough study of basics from 1905 to the present.
Becoming a Professional Writer - the long-missing W.S. Campbell approach, revamped for our contemporary times. Basics to writing and getting paid for it.
Writing non-fiction (Campbell revamp and update - 2nd leg)
Writing short story fiction (also a Campbell revamp - the first leg)
And you’ll see some sensibility in this, as by planning out a 5-book series, it builds an income stream from this research. And all along, trains both entrepreneurs (marketers) and writers in the craft of both.
Each book gets a mini-course, which is bundled along with the books into a huge package later.
Again, it’s only days away from Spring, and I have fencing to do, as well as gardening. There’s a full eclipse to attend, and keeping track of new-born. And a fair amount of cuddling to give both my wife and great-grandkids.
Meanwhile, I have another trailer to turn into my writer cabin, plus another after that which might get sold this fall as a hunter’s cabin…
As usual, I really believe life is great and getting better. And hope you expect yours is, too.
Thanks for being there, opening this.
And leaving a rating on the Living Sensical site for the stuff you buy there.
And also leaving comments on my Substack site.
As well as leaving recommendations on Bookbub in addition to reviews anywhere else.
You know, that "paying it forward" kinda thing.
Oh, yes - buying my books, paying for a subscription, all that keeps these newsletters coming to you.
Do keep sharing these books and this newsletter with your friends, too.
I hope your life is not too interesting to be overwhelming, but sufficiently engaging to keep you amused. (Like some of us here...)
Robert
PS. Again, you can always email me about anything.
PPS. Again, do upgrade to the paid newsletter version. That helps me keep the lights on - so I can keep all this coming to you. As much or little as you want…
