[Living Sensical] New Year Begins - New Day, New Lesson...
Living on a working farm has it's benefits and its disciplines. Writing in the cracks is one of these...
Hi,
Our course is started. Plenty for everyone. All this month, every day…
Subjects this week:
Farm News (big section on Tiny Home)
Writing News (Course is live…)
Farm News
That snow didn’t last more than a day. We’re supposed to get some more this week. Still too warm to last.
A nice sunset yesterday. Cows are spread out, gleaning what they can from this pasture.
In general grass grows between 38F and 90F. But that’s ground temperature, not what we feel in the air. As long as it has water, it will grow a little bit. Usually after Nov 15th or so, it gets just too cold. So for them, it’s a bit like eating hay - very short hay.
I do this to stretch out my baled hay for the winter. I have 63 bales on the ground this year, spread out for them. This size of herd goes through a bale a day - so if I delay feeding them that until Jan 15, I can last until Mar 15 when the grass will start greening up and they will actually start refusing hay. I have to budget hay, and keep spares, for just in case.
Stay tuned for bale-feeding pictures - in a couple of weeks.
Tiny Home
Thought you’d like to see some progress pictures. History…
It started out as a shed on wheels. Then I started finishing it into shape. My wife did the outfitting (she requested, I built it.)
And we keep tweaking things weekly.
Now, my wife loves to cook. And I can attest she’s good at it. That counter top was one we had laying around after other renovations. It was 5 1/2 feet long, but I narrowed it to 2 foot deep. Because we needed space to walk in between.
Instead of cutting out a sink, I simply added on another two foot section on the end and painted it to match. (Our of the picture in front.) We have a cutting board that covers the sink and she uses this for cooking and preps.
Recently, we added a shelf at the back (where those pillows are) for more cooking appliances - a juicer and a food processor. And you can see a white rolling island behind that refrigerator - that holds a Ninja Air Fryer. Microwave and toaster on the far end of the counter. And somehow, she keeps her cooking down to a 20 amp breaker. (Yes, she really wants a full-sized kitchen.)
There’s a lot of details inside this now. I could write for hours about it. And now we’re living the life. Cute, Cozy, Comfortable.
Writing News
I can hardly tell what’s coming your way. You’re only supposed to get this newsletter, but some things get out. Supposedly, you shouldn’t be getting my daily course lessons.
The lesson videos were wrapped up late last week, and started on Jan 2nd as promised. I did wind up making them free, where they’ll go behind a paywall later. And I do have chats daily, no matter what. So that’s something you can do every day if you want. Ask me anything. I’m on Substack for a couple hours every day, writing. Might as well talk to someone meanwhile.
I’ve got some seven non-fiction books and their courses laid out. Maybe I’ll get to them all this year. That would be nice.
As I can, I’ve got that Writerpreneur OS book to wrap up. Just some editing.
And I may start in on my copywriting research shortly. Because it’s an itch that needs scratching.
I have a lot to learn about Substack, and will compile what I find out at some point. Not too surprising: the things that make a successful writer on this platform are common, evergreen, and eternal.
It all leads me back to getting Walter S. Campbell’s stuff revamped for our modern age.
When time permits…
The Core Basics Course is Live!
As mentioned above, I’ve begun shipping these videos and their transcripts daily. Ready or not, here we go.
Again, I’ve boiled these down to simple basics that are mostly unknown. And they are short reads and listens - 2 or 3 minutes each. Every day this month.
Like - over your morning brew?
Unless you’re in Australia…
Thanks again for opening this. And reading these books.
And leaving a rating on the Living Sensical site for the stuff you buy there.
As well as leaving recommendations on Bookbub in addition to reviews anywhere else.
You know, that "paying it forward" kinda thing.
Do keep sharing these books with your friends, too.
I hope your life is not too interesting to be overwhelming, but sufficiently engaging to keep you amused. (Like some of us here...)

PS. Again, you can always email me about anything.
PPS. Do upgrade to the paid newsletter version. That helps me keep the lights on - so I can keep this coming to you.
